Horses and Jockeys preparing for a race

What does BTR do?
We put together racehorse ownership syndicates, i.e. a small number of people to share in ownership of a racehorse.

How many people are there in each syndicate?
This varies, usually from four to a maximum of twelve, depending on individual preferences and horses available.

Why join a BTR syndicate rather than individual ownership?
It will be much more fun, more cost effective and will give you a greater chance of racing success at the higher level.

Who buys the horses?
Our horses are currently generally bought by two of Europe's leading bloodstock agents, Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock Ltd and the BBA Ireland.

When are the syndicates available?
Shares are available from time to time in various horses pending on the type of horse, i.e. flat or NH - just contact us for details or see our Syndicates page for latest details.

How long do the horses race for?
We plan on racing our Flat racehorses from the age of two until the end of their three year old careers (i.e. for two seasons) when the horses are sold, unless the syndicate shareowners agree to keep the horse in training. Our NH horses will generally also be raced for two years/seasons.

Who trains the horses?
Our syndicated horses for the current flat & NH season's are currently in training with the following trainers:- Flat- Richard Hannon and Marco Botti in the UK. N.H. - Willie Mullins in Ireland. Other trainers to have trained for Byerley in recent seasons, and hopefully in the future, include John Oxx, Jessica Harrington and Ger Lyons in Ireland and Alan King in the U.K.

Can shareowners visit their horses in training at the stables?
Yes, shareowners are more than welcome to visit their horse provided this is arranged in advance through our office.

Jockey On a horse

What happens on race days?
BTR organises for two Owners/entrance badges for each shareowner generally allowing access to the paddock before the race in addition to any Owners & Trainers facilities. We are also in attendance ensuring your day goes smoothly. Byerley TR promote a dress code in line with racecourse 'Owners & Trainers' guidelines on race days, for both shareowners and their guests,i.e. smart casual/smart dress.

Will shareowners make a profit?
Some may well do, but no-one should buy a share in a BTR syndicate to make a profit.

How is Byerley Thoroughbred Racing remunerated?
A training and management fee is charged on each syndicated horse. In addition the company may also take a small percentage of the sale price of the horse.

How much does a syndicate share cost?
This differs from syndicate to syndicate, depending on the proposed number of shareowners and the purchase price of the horse. We also offer a number of payment options to suit your own individual needs.

What does the price of a share include?
The price of a share covers your % share purchase in the horse. Monthly Training and management fee's cover training & gallops fees, general vets and farriers fees plus insurance of the horse. Race entry fees, jockeys riding fees and associated raceday transport costs are additional and are generally deducted from the final balance at the end of the agreement when the syndicate accounts are finalised.
