The current Byerley racehorses are in training with John Oxx and Willie Mullins in Ireland and with Richard Hannon in the U.K. The success of Byerley is largely dependent on our choice of trainers. We have therefore chosen a selection of both the vastly experienced and the up and coming best of breed trainers. Read on below for information on our current trainers. Other trainers who have trained for Byerley in recent years (and hopefully again in the future) include Jessica Harrington, Ger Lyons and Alan King..
Willie Mullins
Willie Mullins is the current Irish NH Champion Trainer, based at Closutton, Bagnelstown, Co Carlow.
A former jockey he commenced racehorse training in 1988 having previously worked as an assistant to his father Paddy Mullins and Jim Bolger. Mullins is a former six times amateur champion jockey in Ireland, winning the 1983 Aintree Fox Hunters on Atha Cliath and the 1996 Cheltenham Bumper on his own trained Wither Or Which.
Willie has won just about every major prize in Irish racing and most of the big ones in the U.K. and a few in France. Major races won include the Aintree Grand National, The King George VI Chase, Champion Hurdles (in Ireland, U.K and France), seven Irish Hennessy's, a couple of Supreme Novice Hurdles and a few Cheltenham Champion Bumpers!
He is now firmly recognized as the leading NH trainer in Ireland, winning the Trainers Championship for the past four seasons and has won the title six times in all. His current string houses a multitude of high class prospects such as Hurricane Fly, Quevega, Thousand Stars and promising up-and coming horses horses like So Young, Zaidpour and our very own Grade 2 winner Lambro.
Willie has the services of some of the leading riders in the country including Ruby Walsh, last seasons Irish Champion jockey Paul Townend, Emmet Mullins and his son Patrick who has struck up a notable partnership in Bumpers. Together they are a most formidable team.
Richard Hannon
Richard Hannon is the son of a trainer and took out his first license in 1970. He trains from two yards based at East Everleigh Stables in Marlborough, Wiltshire. He has trained more than 100 winners a season for the past 16 seasons and was crowned Champion Trainer in the UK for the third time for the 2011 season (his 2nd succesive title), once again yielding over 200 winners with total prize-money won in excess of £3.6m!
His previous Champion trainer titles came back in 1992 and last year 2010. He has had four Classic successes - all in the 2,000 Guineas - with Mon Fils (1973), Don't Forget Me (1987), Tirol (1990) and Canford Cliffs (Irish 2000 Guineas in 2010). He has also enjoyed some notable recent Group 1 successes with Reel Buddy, Indian Ink, Paco Boy and Dick Turpin. But it is with two-year-olds that Hannon has developed a speciality and his entrants in juvenile races must always be respected. Like many racing stables, Hannon's Wiltshire-based operation is a family-run affair - his son, also called Richard, is the assistant trainer.
John Oxx
John commenced training in 1979 when he took over the reins from his father, who was himself a very successful trainer winning eight Irish classics. John is a graduate of University College Dublin and is also a qualified vet.
John is based at Killabeg Stables, Currabeg, Kildare from where he has prepared so many top class horses over the past 30 years..
"We are delighted to be training for Byerley Thoroughbred Racing. Both Forthefirstime's and Aspectoflove's owner's enjoyed some fantastic highlights in their respective seasons and we thoroughly enjoyed their successes with them. Byerley are very professional and well organized and we look forward to continuing our successful relationship". John Oxx, Trainer.

During the 1980's John forged a relationship with the Aga Khan that remains today and he was also the major Irish trainer for Sheikh Mohammed. John has trained multiple Group 1 winners all over the world including the globe trotting fillies Ridgewood Pearl (Breeders Cup Mile winner) and Timarida.
In recent seasons John has shown the breadth of his talent, training top class colts like Sinndar, Alamshar, Azamour (all for the Aga Khan) and 'wonder horse' Sea The Stars, who won the 2000 Guineas, Epsom Derby, Eclipse Stakes, Juddmonte International, Irish Champion and The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. John currently trains a string of around 100 horses including the promising 2 y-o's Born To Sea (Sea The Stars half brother), Akeed Mofeed and impressive Maiden winner Takar. 2011 Irish Champion jockey Johnny Murtagh (who has ridden multiple Grp 1 winners all over the world) is the retained stable jockey backed up by Niall McCullagh and Ben Curtis.
Marco Botti
Marco Botti started training in Newmarket in 2006 and in a short space of time he has already proved himself to be a young trainer who is going places – fast.
A constant flow of winners – including the likes of stakes winners Sesmen, Raymi Coya, Re Barolo, Ceremonial Jade, Soneva, Electric Feel and Fanunalter – has seen his string double in size during those years, and it is just not in the UK that his horses are successful.
In 2009, Marco trained his first top-level winner when Gitano Hernando won the G1 Goodwood Stakes at Santa Anita. That success has been followed in 2011 with a first Classic victory, with Excelebration winning the German 2,000 Guineas by an impressive seven lengths and following up with another Group 1 success in the Prix De Moulin before finishing a very respectable 2nd to Champion 3 y-o Frankel in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot in October..
As the son of Italy’s multiple champion trainer, Marco has horseracing in his blood, as does his wife Lucie, a former jockey. They can also rely on an excellent team of staff at Green Ridge Stables in the heart of horseracing’s headquarters. Supported by a growing band of owners from England, Italy, Germany, Turkey, America, Qatar, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Marco Botti has gained a reputation as one of the best trainers of his generation.
TOP TRAINERS = TOP RIDERS... By using some of the top trainers in both Ireland and the U.K we can also call on some of the leading riders in the world to ride our horses.
